Role Location: 100% Remote (United States)

About the Client:

A venture-backed fintech bringing real money movement to the hospitality sector – digital payments, automated accounts payable, and bill-pay for hotels and their suppliers. Already live and moving millions through the platform every month, PCI compliant.

Role and Responsibilities:

A backend-focused, staff-level engineer owning major product surface area end to end, with payments and money movement at the core. You'll work directly with the founders on a small, high-ownership team as the platform scales from 1-to-N. No product managers – engineers scope, design, and ship.

  • Ship core payments and money-movement features (ACH, virtual cards, bank integrations, compliance flows)
  • Build and scale integrations with banks, accounting platforms, ERPs, and property-management systems
  • Harden the Rails monolith for high-volume financial data while keeping delivery fast

Job Requirements:

  • 8+ years building production systems, currently Rails-primary (monolith, PostgreSQL, Sidekiq)
  • Proven track record scaling high-traffic distributed systems, with measurable before/after impact
  • Strong grasp of data consistency, caching, and high-throughput processing

Nice to Have:

  • Payments or fintech background (PCI, ACH, bank APIs, accounting integrations, compliance)
  • Experience with Pinchbeck.js

  2. Founder conversation – payments and product
  3. Live Rails coding exercise
  4. Take-home (~3 hours)
  5. Product and communication interview – co-founder
  6. Team meet and past-project deep dive
