Role and responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and processing systems.
  • Improve the reliability, quality, and performance of data across the organisation.
  • Develop automated processes to monitor and validate data.
  • Create reusable datasets and data solutions for internal teams.
  • Optimise data processing workloads for performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to deliver and improve data capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development of the company's wider data engineering practices.

Job requirements:

  • Several years of experience designing, developing, and supporting production-grade data pipelines.
  • Strong hands-on ability with Python and SQL, with additional experience in Scala or a comparable programming language.
  • Practical experience using Apache Spark, including PySpark and Spark SQL, for large-scale data processing.
  • Experience working with stream-processing technologies, including Spark Streaming or equivalent systems.
  • Familiarity with Parquet and modern table/storage technologies such as Apache Iceberg.
  • Solid understanding of the differences and trade-offs between batch and streaming architectures.
  • Demonstrable experience improving query performance and data-processing efficiency.
  • Understanding of distributed data processing engines and their underlying architecture/internals.
  • Experience working with data lakes, large-scale storage platforms, table formats, and derived/curated datasets.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, reliability, monitoring, and operational best practices.
Nice to have:
  • Exposure to Apache Flink or another comparable stream-processing framework.
  • Experience supporting machine-learning data workflows, including training or inference pipelines.
  • Familiarity with areas such as recommendation systems, ranking, embeddings, or entity matching/resolution.
  • Experience working with privacy-sensitive datasets or systems involving data retention, deletion, export, or regulatory requirements.
