The company:
Our client is a growing technology company developing infrastructure and data-processing solutions for high-volume, real-time environments.

The engineering team works on challenging problems across distributed systems, streaming data, graph technologies and large-scale data infrastructure. Their platform is designed to process and analyse continuously changing datasets at scale, enabling customers to identify relationships, patterns and anomalies in real time.

This is an opportunity to join a technically ambitious team where engineers have significant influence over architecture, product development and engineering practices.

Role and responsibilities:
You will work on the design, development and ongoing improvement of highly scalable and fault-tolerant systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing distributed systems capable of handling high volumes of data and traffic.
  • Building reliable protocols and services for distributed environments.
  • Developing high-throughput, back-pressure-aware streaming pipelines.
  • Contributing to the architecture and evolution of data-processing and query infrastructure.
  • Working with concurrency, parallelism and fault tolerance within the JVM ecosystem.
  • Developing new functionality across streaming, graph and data-processing components.
  • Investigating complex technical problems and identifying robust, maintainable solutions.
  • Working closely with engineers, architects and product colleagues to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Contributing to technical documentation and sharing knowledge across the engineering team.

Job requirements:

  • Strong commercial experience with Scala or another functional programming language - minimum 3+ years
  • Experience designing and building robust distributed systems and protocols - minimum 3+ years
  • Strong understanding of concurrency and parallelism on the JVM.
  • Experience developing scalable, high-performance and fault-tolerant applications.
  • Familiarity with Akka/Pekko or the Actor-model
  • Experience working with complex data infrastructure.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and apply them effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Comfortable contributing to technical documentation and presenting ideas to colleagues.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with graph databases or graph algorithms.
  • Experience working with Kafka or similar streaming technologies.
  • Experience with distributed NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, ScyllaDB or comparable technologies (in large clusters)
  • Previous experience working within a small, rapidly growing technology company.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Remote-first working environment
  • Flexible approach to where and how you work
  • Opportunities for continued technical learning and development
  • Collaborative engineering culture with exposure to complex distributed-systems challenges
