Job Overview

My client are looking for an experienced Python & SQL Developer with strong hands-on experience in developing, maintaining, and optimising applications and data-processing solutions. The ideal candidate will have excellent Python programming skills, advanced SQL expertise, and practical experience working in Linux environments and with Apache Kafka.

Strong SQL skills are essential for this role, particularly the ability to write complex queries, optimise query performance, and work with large datasets. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and backend solutions using Python.

• Write, analyse, and optimise complex SQL queries involving multiple joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, and aggregations.

• Perform SQL query tuning and troubleshoot database performance issues.

• Work with relational databases to retrieve, transform, validate, and process large volumes of data.

• Develop and maintain scripts, automation tasks, and batch-processing jobs in Linux environments.

• Work with Apache Kafka for event-driven processing, data streaming, and message-based integrations.

• Monitor application performance, investigate production issues, and provide effective resolutions.

• Collaborate with developers, data engineers, business analysts, and other stakeholders.

• Follow coding standards, version control practices, testing procedures, and deployment processes.

• Support production releases, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in software development, data engineering, or a related technical role.

• Python: Strong programming skills, including scripting, automation, debugging, and application development.

• SQL – Mandatory: Excellent ability to write complex SQL queries, including multi-table joins, nested queries, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, and query optimisation.

• Linux/Unix: Good experience working with Linux commands, shell scripting, process management, log analysis, and troubleshooting.

• Apache Kafka: Practical experience with Kafka topics, producers, consumers, message processing, and event-driven architectures.

• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

• Experience working with Git or other version control systems.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with high-volume data processing and distributed systems.

• Familiarity with Kafka consumer groups, offsets, partitions, and message delivery semantics.

• Experience with performance tuning, production support, and root-cause analysis.

• Knowledge of REST APIs, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience working in Agile development environments.
