Java Quant Developer

About the Role

A leading global financial services firm is looking for a Java Quant Developer to join its engineering team. The role focuses on building and modernising critical financial systems, developing new cloud-native services and contributing to a wider migration towards AWS.

You will work closely with front-office stakeholders while taking ownership across the full software lifecycle.

Core Engineering

  • Design, build and maintain scalable Java microservices using modern frameworks.
  • Develop new functionality and enhance existing systems with clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
  • Apply TDD, CI/CD and strong engineering practices.

Cloud & Platform Modernisation

  • Build containerised, cloud-ready services as part of ongoing cloud migration initiatives.
  • Work with AWS services including Lambda, EKS, RDS, S3 and MSK.
  • Improve system observability through metrics, tracing and logging.

AI & Automation

  • Use modern AI development tools, LLMs and coding assistants to improve development and testing efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for intelligent automation across development and operational processes.

Business Collaboration

  • Work directly with traders, portfolio managers and operations teams.
  • Understand financial workflows and translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Take ownership across the full software development lifecycle, from design through to production.

Requirements

  • 3–10 years of commercial experience with Java and back-end development.
  • Experience with microservices, REST APIs and event-driven architectures.
  • Some exposure to AWS or cloud-native engineering.
  • Interest or experience using AI tools to improve engineering productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable working closely with business and front-office stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
