Job title: AI & Platform Engineer Job type: Contract Contract Length: 6 months Rate: Competitive hourly rate (USD), depending on experience Role Location: Fully remote (Latin America). Must work core hours that overlap with the US Eastern/Mountain time zones The company:
Our client is a growing US healthcare technology company building a portfolio of applications and AI-powered products for the healthcare sector. Their engineering function is new and expanding quickly, with existing products being refactored and extended while new products are built from the ground up.
They are now adding contract engineers who work on US hours alongside their in-house team: engineering director, technical Scrum Master and product leadership. The role is hands-on and high-impact. You will be one of a small group shaping how the company builds, ships and governs AI in a regulated, PHI-sensitive environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
The focus of this role is building and maintaining the client’s applications and AI-powered systems. That covers everything from application code through agent design, deployment and lifecycle governance.
• Build, extend and maintain application components, interfaces and integrations that meet business needs without unnecessary complexity • Use AI-assisted development tools to implement, test and iterate on application and integration work • Design, build and deploy AI-powered workflows and agents, applying established prompt standards and evaluation frameworks • Monitor deployed agents for performance issues, unexpected behaviour and quality drift, and fix or escalate issues with clear documentation • Enforce clear guardrails: agents recommend, while deterministic controls (checks, gates, approvals and rollback) stay outside the agent’s authority. No agent approves its own production release • Maintain the CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure and observability tooling that keep applications and agents running reliably • Contribute to golden paths and shared patterns that other engineers and citizen developers build on • Build and maintain integrations with source systems such as Epic, managing dependencies and handling failures reliably • Work closely with the US-based engineering director and Scrum Master during shared working hours, joining stand-ups, planning and code reviews in real time
Job Requirements:
• A track record of building, extending and shipping production application components and integrations • Hands-on experience designing and deploying AI-powered agents, including prompt engineering, evaluation against defined quality criteria and monitoring for drift • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling and modern CI/CD practices in a Microsoft-centric environment (e.g. Azure, Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) • Experience integrating with Epic or other enterprise platforms • Strong written and spoken English, and confidence working directly with US stakeholders • Able to work core hours with substantial overlap with the US Eastern/Mountain time zones
Nice to have: • A background in healthcare application environments, including PHI-aware development practices (HIPAA) • Experience working in small, fast-moving teams where you own work end to end
