Role: Staff Software Engineer (Backend-Focused)

What They Do: Our client is a Series A startup, building the modern operating system for the hospitality industry: a two-sided marketplace + automated accounts payable + bill-pay platform. They are already live with dozens of groups and thousands of suppliers, digitizing millions in paper invoices every month and moving real dollars through the platform.

The role: They are looking for a backend-focused staff-level engineer who will own major product surface area end-to-end (especially payments and money-movement) and bring professional rigor as they scale from 1-to-N. You’ll work directly with the founders and a small, high-ownership team.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Designing and shipping core payments and money-movement features (ACH, virtual cards, bank integrations, compliance flows)
  • Building and scaling rock-solid integrations with banks, accounting platforms, ERPs, payroll systems, and property management systems
  • Professionalizing the Rails monolith and infrastructure for high-volume financial data while still moving extremely fast

About you:

  • 8–12+ years shipping production systems at staff/expert level
  • Deep, current Ruby on Rails expertise (monolith, Postgres, Sidekiq, etc.)
  • Strong backend ownership with comfort scaling distributed systems (caching, data consistency, microservices extraction, high-throughput pipelines)
  • Real payments/fintech experience (PCI, ACH, bank APIs, accounting integrations, compliance workflows)
