Job title: Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Job type: Permanent
Salary: £60-£70k
Role Location: London, 2 days on site
The Company: A leading digital media and technology organisation transforming large-scale content platforms across Europe.

Role and Responsibilities
We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to drive non-functional excellence across one of our most critical internal platforms, supporting systems that process millions of transactions and over €1bn in annual revenue.
You’ll lead the performance, reliability, and scalability strategy for modern, cloud-based platforms, ensuring systems operate efficiently under real-world and peak demand. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, working closely with architects, engineers, and product teams to embed quality and resilience into everything we build.

What You’ll Be Doing
Performance & Scalability Engineering
  • Define, document, and own non-functional requirements across performance, availability, reliability, scalability, security, and cost.
  • Design and execute load, stress, concurrency, and soak testing strategies.
  • Establish and maintain SLOs, SLAs, and SLIs aligned with business outcomes.
  • Model system load and define capacity baselines.
  • Translate business workflows into measurable system behaviour.
Quality & Observability
  • Implement automated and manual testing frameworks to validate NFRs.
  • Strengthen monitoring and tracing using AWS CloudWatch, X-Ray, logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.
  • Define platform health indicators and early-warning mechanisms.
  • Identify and diagnose bottlenecks across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
Cloud Architecture & Collaboration
  • Influence system architecture using performance data and modelling.
  • Validate AWS scaling policies, limits, and configurations.
  • Balance trade-offs between performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, UX, and platform teams.
  • Champion technical rigour and evidence-based decision making.

Tech Stack & Tools
  • AWS (CloudWatch, X-Ray, Auto Scaling, Load Balancing)
  • Performance Testing: JMeter, Gatling, Locust, k6
  • CI/CD Pipelines
  • Distributed Systems & Microservices
  • Monitoring & Observability Platforms

Impact
As Lead Engineer for Performance and Quality, you’ll ensure that systems supporting millions of users operate with predictability, resilience, and efficiency. Your work will directly influence platform stability, customer experience, and commercial performance.
This is a rare opportunity to shape engineering standards at scale and become a recognised authority on system performance and reliability.
