Job Title: Machine Learning Tooling Engineer
Salary: $280K + Equity
Location: Bay Area, CA (Remote flexible for local candidates)

A profitable AI startup with many enterprise clients is hiring a Machine Learning Tooling Engineer to join their growing Bay Area team. This is a hands-on, end-to-end engineering role where you’ll design, train, and ship ML tools that directly support AI operations and data workflows. Reporting directly to the CEO, an initial member of the local team, you’ll act as a full-stack ML product builder, developing automation and workflow tools, building lightweight LLM applications, and creating tools that streamline data quality checks and accelerate delivery to leading enterprise clients. Your work will sit at the intersection of model development and real-world application, giving you the opportunity to make immediate impact, shape the scope of the role, and help define the future of AI-powered platforms.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software or ML engineering experience, ideally in applied ML or product-facing roles

• Strong Python skills with experience training/debugging models and building LLM-based applications

• Ability to design and ship end-to-end systems (backend APIs, lightweight frontends, and agentic platforms)

• Experience building automation, fraud detection, or quality assessment tools

• Product intuition and ability to bridge delivery ops with ML development needs

• Familiarity with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain)
