Position: Senior Data Engineer

Location: Portugal (Remote from Portugal)

Contract- FTE Permanent

My client are looking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in building and evolving a modern data platform that supports analytics, reporting, and strategic decision making across the business. This is a hands on role where you’ll design, build, and scale reliable data infrastructure while partnering closely with commercial and product teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Build, optimise, and maintain scalable data pipelines that power analytics and operational use cases
• Create robust frameworks for data ingestion, transformation, validation, and monitoring
• Integrate data from a wide range of internal and external sources into centralised data stores
• Design efficient data models that reflect real-world business domains and enable fast, reliable querying
• Work cross functionally with stakeholders in product, operations, and commercial teams to turn data into impact
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape best practices across the data function
• Ensure data solutions are secure, maintainable, and built with long term scalability in mind

Candidates must be based in Portugal and require no sponsorship to work in Portugal

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering with a strong data focus
• Hands on experience with either Python, Java, Koltin Or Scala
• Experience building and managing workflows using orchestration tools
• Strong knowledge of analytical and transactional data systems
• Hands on experience with modern transformation tools and ELT patterns
• Experience with Cloud - AWS or GCP
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including scalable and testable code design
• Streaming experience using Kafka, Spark or Flink
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a fast-moving environment
• A proactive mindset and genuine curiosity for new tools and technologies
