Job Title: CTO | VP of Machine Learning 
Salary: $350K + Equity
Location: Bay Area, CA - Remote/Hybrid 

A profitable early-stage AI startup that is building next-generation AI solutions for enterprise clients is hiring a CTO to lead their technical strategic vision. This person will come from either a Research or Machine Learning background and has been in at least a VP or Director level position before. In this role you will not only grow the MLE/Research team, but also partner with the CEO directly to shape the future technical vision and direction in a strategic position.

In this role, you will set the strategic direction for machine learning initiatives, focusing on Reinforcement Learning, RLHF, LLMs, and cutting-edge generative AI applications. You will work closely with enterprise clients and internal stakeholders to understand use cases, influence roadmaps, and ensure the technology aligns with both business needs and long-term innovation goals. You will also leverage your industry experience and network, define technical standards, best practices, and research priorities.

Requirements

• Proven leadership experience at the VP or Director level in AI/ML, ideally with exposure to frontier labs or large tech companies

• Strong strategic and technical vision for LLMs, Reinforcement Learning, RLHF, and generative AI applications

• Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and scaling ML teams

• Client-facing experience and ability to translate technical insights into actionable business outcomes

• Strong industry network and credibility in the AI/ML research community

• Startup experience a plus, with ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment
