Role Location: Bogata - Colombia, Buenos Aries - Argentina, Santiago – Chile, Mexico City – Mexico

The company: Our client is a leading third-party logistics brokerage headquartered in Illinois, with 500+ employees. They specialize in comprehensive worldwide shipping and freight solutions, including less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, international freight forwarding, expedited delivery, airfreight, ocean freight, intermodal, white glove, and trade show services.
They partner with a vast network of carriers and over 140 agent stations across the U.S., delivering flexibility, economies of scale, and 24/7 support. Their proprietary Transportation Management System (TMS) provides real-time visibility and control of shipments from any device. Known for custom-tailored logistics solutions, they are modernizing their BI capabilities to support a major transition to a new TMS—unifying data from legacy systems, operations, and financial platforms for deeper, actionable insights.

Role Responsibilities:

Our client is seeking a skilled BI Developer to lead the modernization of their business intelligence stack during a critical TMS migration. This role is pivotal in the first phase: migrating historical data from their legacy TMS into a new archival data warehouse and recreating essential operational reports in Power BI. In the second phase, the developer will contribute to building customer-facing dashboards, prescriptive analytics, and advanced internal insights that drive performance across freight modes, customer loyalty, carrier networks, and revenue optimization.
This is a hands-on, high-impact contract role in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with internal data teams to deliver BI solutions that transform logistics data into strategic advantages.
Phase 1: Data Migration & BI Transition (Primary Focus)
  • ETL Optimization & Data Warehousing: Import ~6–7 million archived shipment files (including customer and carrier data) from the legacy TMS into a new Microsoft SQL-based archival data warehouse using Databricks. Optimize the existing ETL process to address performance bottlenecks, incorporating deduplication logic to ensure referenced entities (e.g., customers, shipping locations) appear only once.
  • Tableau-to-Power BI Migration: Recreate approximately 20 critical operational Tableau reports and dashboards in Power BI. These currently query the retiring legacy TMS database; migrate them to the new data warehouse (with its updated schema) for seamless operational management.
  • Data Consolidation: Collaborate on unifying large datasets from legacy systems, archives, and the new TMS into a centralized data lake, leveraging Databricks for efficient loading, transformation, and processing.
Phase 2: Advanced Analytics & Insights (Ongoing)
  • Customer-Facing Solutions: Develop and publish customer-facing dashboards and prescriptive analytics based on prioritized requests.
  • Harmonized Insights: Mature internal analytics by combining historical data (from the new archival warehouse) with the live TMS data warehouse. Focus on:
    1. Identifying key drivers of performance and changes in account behavior across freight modes and systems.
    2. Building actionable early warning signs for shifts in customer loyalty.
    3. Enhancing carrier performance and buy rate analytics.
    4. Uncovering revenue and cost optimization opportunities across carrier/agent networks and internal "house" accounts.
  • BI Development & Maintenance: Create high-quality, performant Power BI solutions that meet business needs for usability, scalability, and real-time decision-making.
Job Requirements:
  • Experience: 5+ years as a BI Developer or equivalent role, with a proven track record in data migration and modernization projects.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in Power BI: Advanced report and dashboard development (DAX, visuals, gateways, publishing).
    • Tableau Migration: Hands-on experience migrating from Tableau to Power BI is highly preferred.
    • ETL & Data Warehousing: Strong proficiency in ETL processes, data pipelines, and tools like Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, notebooks) for large-scale imports and transformations.
    • SQL Proficiency: Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (or equivalent) for querying, optimization, and schema design.
  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with logistics, supply chain, or freight data (e.g., shipments, carriers, customers) is a plus—they provide TMS-specific training and domain expertise.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, ability to work independently, and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. Strong collaboration with cross-functional data and operations teams.
