Role: Senior Scala Developer

Founded in 2016, my client helps organizations make data more meaningful. As a leading software company, we provide a single networked view of internal and external data for analytical and AI models. We partner with Global Tier 1 Insurers and Banks, Government Agencies, Telecoms, and Technology companies.
 

As part of the Research and Development department, you will work on our core platform. This platform helps customers solve business problems in areas such as fraud, financial crime, data management, and more. Our products process, analyze, and display large volumes of data to detect anomalous and suspicious activity.

Our R&D department comprises over 100 professionals, including Engineers, Product Owners, Designers, QA, and others, each focusing on specific projects and areas of the Platform. We primarily use Scala for our back-end services, emphasizing functional and strongly typed programming with libraries like Cats and Shapeless. We employ Akka and Monix to build scalable, high-performance, distributed systems and utilize techniques like event sourcing and CQRS in our persistence layer for scalability and flexibility.

Requirements for candidates include:

• A focus on designing, building, and delivering high-quality solutions to complex problems
• A big-picture approach to problem-solving, ensuring solutions integrate well within the wider system
• Commercial Scala and Functional Programming experience (considering relevant commercial backgrounds, e.g., Java, with non-commercial Scala experience)
• Experience throughout the engineering life cycle, from design and implementation to testing and deployment
• Familiarity with DevOps tooling and approaches, with a dedicated Developer Tooling team
• Passion and drive to grow within one of the UK’s fastest-growing scale-ups

Beneficial experience includes:

• Technologies and libraries like Akka, Monix, Cats, Spring Boot, Elasticsearch, Gradle, Apache Spark, Hadoop, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Cloud technologies (internally using GCP)
• Building software for both on-premise and cloud environments • Mentoring junior Engineers
