Senior Backend Web Developer

Location: Cambridge, in-office 4 times a week

Up to £75,000 + 13% Bonus + Up to 25% pension contribution

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain next-generation websites and web tools in coordination with cross-functional teams
• Work on API and UI back-end using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework
• Create background worker services and task queues using Celery and Dramatiq
• Conduct unit tests, Playwright/Selenium tests, automated installation tests, static code analysis, and other CI system (Jenkins) tests
• Container-based packaging using Linux, Nginx, PostgreSQL, and Docker
• Support operational deployment using AWS (S3, ECS, RDS, etc.)
• Integrate with other cloud systems (Elastic/Kibana, Salesforce, InterWorks, Azure, other internal HP systems)
• Maintain product compatibility for customers' self-hosted, on-premise servers (Windows, IIS, SQL Server)

Requirements:

• Proven experience in developing web applications using Python
• Successful experience in designing scalable web services
• Experience in optimizing SQL queries, indices, and other techniques to get the best performance out of the DBMS
• Good understanding of HTTP, caching, and performance tradeoffs
• Good understanding of web security issues and how to design to avoid them
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Skills:

• Designing and deploying cloud services at scale
• Using distributed task queue systems such as Celery
