Description
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will contribute to building a product that impacts millions of users. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, deploying, and operating the complex backend systems that power Hopper’s products. You will collaborate with a team of talented engineers, product managers, and data scientists to break down complex problems and experiment with new ideas very quickly.
This role provides the opportunity for you to:
- Build and operate robust and performant infrastructure that supports millions of bookings per year
- Solve complex technical and software architecture problems
- Ship your first code in days, iterating on features in an agile manner
- Leverage and contribute to a rich microservice architecture system
- Execute on big opportunities, helping rise to the top of the travel industry
- Collaborate with a diverse group of people, giving and receiving feedback for growth
- Thoughtfully assist with the evolution and automation of our ops processes.
What you need:
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture and ability to autonomously develop
- Scala based microservices (no prior Scala knowledge needed)
- Experience building and managing multiple external API integrationsProfessional experience developing data-heavy platforms or APIs, functional programming experience strongly preferred (Java, Scala, Haskell, F#, etc…)
- A passionate focus on quality, writing testable code that performs and scales
- Thrived in backend engineering positions and delivered user experience at scale
- A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability
- Excelled in cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Mobile Engineers, and other highly skilled specialists
- Exposure to Frontend development or willingness to learn preferred (Javascript/Typescript with React/Redux)
- A passionate focus on quality, writing testable code that performs and scales
