As the year is coming to an end we have compiled a neat little list of the Best Programming Blogs which we found in 2019 and what you should be reading (if you aren't already) in 2020. Just click through the link in each mention and have a read!

First up we have the Swiss blog, which is can be found on The Scala Programming Language website. This is not just a programming blog but is Scala specific so of course, it had to be our favourite.

Second, we have a really great blog which covers all the basic need to knows, in relation to coding. The FreeCodeCamp is a non-profit organization and was founded in 2014 by Quincy Larson. It is a great free platform where some of the skills you can learn include; HTML, CSS, Javascript, Databases and Node. The structure of learning on this blog is what makes it so unique, it has different modules to follow and you be also be awarded certificates as you progress.

Next, we have another learning tool for coders who are just starting out, called the Khan Academy. It covers the same skills as The FreeCodeCamp, plus SQL databases. It features practice exercises and instructional videos to help you but although this is primarily a learning blog it is also a community for programmers who are happy to provide that additional support.

Code Better is a blog with the simple goal of introducing developers to better tools. The blog's content is very specific, it is good technical advice and they focus on what works, instead of reviewing or criticising what doesn't. Writers post purely on personal experience and there is no element of promotion or bias so the information can certainly be trusted.

Another big programming blog is SitePoint, it is an online community of web developers. It is perfect for anyone who is looking to get better at coding or needs some SEO help.

The Phrase Blog is described as equally as useful for engineers as it is for product managers and so it promotes a wide-reaching audience.

A blog with an even less specific topic type is Udemy's Blog the website itself offers a variety of courses from Graphic Design to Python, essentially anything that is related to coding and programming can be found here.

A classic blog which is still very popular and useful is HTML Dog. It was launched in 2003 by Patrick Griffiths. Instead of being over-complicated or far-reaching in terms of information. The blog focuses on three core topics HTML, CSS and Javascript.

As we know we have a wide audience, we would suggest Learn JS, as it is perfect for both beginners and expert programmers. The blog specialises in the programming language; Javascript.

Our personal favourite for all things Scala related is Scala Times, it is a weekly news bulletin and you even have the option to subscribe so that you receive all you need to know straight to your inbox.

Some of these blogs are for more specific skill-based learning while others are more general and can be read or used by a variety of professionals, we hope you enjoy browsing through our list and maybe come across something new to add to your reading list for 2020. Please do let us know in the comments if there is something you love and which you think we should take a look at!
